About the Movement
We are building a home for technology that serves human life, not extracts from it. Founded by a former insider, built for everyone.
Origin Story
The founder of Alternative Tech spent over 12 years as a software engineer in Big Tech, including a significant tenure at Amazon/AWS. From the inside, he saw how the infrastructure of the modern web was being redesigned to prioritize data harvesting and attention maximization over public utility.
Based in Vancouver, BC, he watched as the conversation about AI infrastructure—power, land, and compute—became a matter of public cost without public consent. He left the industry to bridge the gap between technical expertise and social justice advocacy.
Who We're For
The Disillusioned
Tech workers who know the systems they build are extracting more than they give.
The Community
Educators, care workers, and advocates who are living with the consequences of tech decisions.
The Builders
People creating minimal, intentional tools that solve real human problems.
What This Is Not
Not a Startup
We are not pursuing growth for the sake of growth or preparing for an exit.
Not Venture-Backed
We will not pivot when the funding changes. Our mission is our anchor.
Not a Place to Complain
Critique is the starting point. Building alternatives is the goal.
Not Another Social Network
We are building infrastructure, not another platform to capture your time.
